Before using a pharmacy in Nha Trang
Nha Trang has many pharmacies, and basic over-the-counter medicines for minor symptoms are easy to find. Still, it is unsafe to assume that almost every medicine can be bought without a prescription or that a Korean product can always be replaced directly. Medicine choice depends on the active ingredient, dosage, medical history, age, pregnancy status, and current symptoms.
Search by active ingredient
Brand names used in Korea may not be recognized in Vietnam. Bring a photo of the package, the English active ingredient, and your usual dosage if possible.
Examples:
- Fever or pain: paracetamol/acetaminophen, ibuprofen
- Allergy: cetirizine, loratadine
- Stomach issues: antacid, loperamide
- Skin or minor wounds: antiseptic, hydrocortisone
Even when the active ingredient is the same, dosage and frequency can differ. Follow the package instructions and the pharmacist's advice.
Medicines that need extra caution
Do not self-medicate with the following unless a doctor or qualified pharmacist confirms it is appropriate:
- Antibiotics
- Strong painkillers
- Steroids
- Sleeping pills or sedatives
- Blood pressure, diabetes, anticoagulant, or other chronic-disease medicines
- Medicines for pregnant people, children, or older adults
If symptoms persist, fever is high, pain is severe, breathing is difficult, or there is an injury, go to a clinic or hospital instead of relying on a pharmacy.
What long-stay visitors should prepare
- Bring enough of your regular medicine from Korea or your home country.
- Carry an English prescription with active ingredient names.
- Keep photos of packages and dosage instructions on your phone.
- If you have a chronic condition, save nearby hospital and insurance contacts in advance.
Insurance documents
Whether pharmacy purchases are reimbursable depends on the insurance policy. Keep the receipt, medicine name, and package photo. If the medicine follows a hospital visit, keep the diagnosis note and prescription as well.
Final note
Pharmacies are useful for minor symptoms, but they do not replace medical diagnosis. Confirm the active ingredient and dosage, and seek medical care if symptoms are serious or do not improve.
