Nha Trang has one of the longest dry seasons in Vietnam, with plenty of sunshine for most of the year. However, the rainy season (roughly October–December) brings concentrated rainfall and choppy seas, which can significantly affect outdoor and ocean activities. The figures below are based on long-term averages — actual conditions vary year to year, and climate patterns can shift.
Month-by-Month Overview

|---|---|---|
| January | 21–27°C | Low — dry season, cool mornings and evenings |
| February | 21–28°C | Low — dry season |
| March | 22–29°C | Low — temperatures rising |
| April | 24–31°C | Low — getting hot |
| May | 25–32°C | Moderate — peak heat, occasional afternoon showers |
| June | 26–33°C | Moderate — hottest period |
| July | 26–33°C | Moderate — hottest period continues |
| August | 26–33°C | Moderate — still hot, consistently warm seas |
| September | 25–32°C | Increasing — transitional, more rain days |
| October | 24–30°C | High — rainy season begins |
| November | 23–28°C | High — typically the wettest month |
| December | 22–27°C | High tapering to moderate — end of rainy season |
Season Summary
January–April — Comfortable and popular
This is the easiest time to visit Nha Trang. Rainfall is low, humidity is manageable, and beach and water activities are reliable. The period from late December through February is peak season, which means accommodation prices and availability can be less favourable — book ahead.
May–August — Hot but good seas
These are the hottest months. Midday outdoor activity can be uncomfortable, but the sea is typically calm and clear — good for snorkelling, diving, and island tours. Air-conditioning use increases substantially, which raises electricity costs for longer-stay renters (see monthly living costs for the electricity note).
September–December — Rainy season: plan flexibly
Rainfall concentrates from around October through December. Rain in Nha Trang tends to come in heavy bursts rather than all-day drizzle, but the frequency increases in October and November. Key considerations:
- Ocean tours (island hopping, snorkelling) are frequently cancelled due to rough seas or low visibility — don't schedule these for the final day of your trip.
- Water activities can recover between rain events; keep your schedule flexible.
- Lower floors or street-facing units in older buildings may have drainage or damp issues — inspect carefully before committing to a rainy-season lease.
One note on typhoons: Nha Trang is not in the highest-risk typhoon zone, but it can be affected by storms tracking through the South China Sea, particularly in October and November. Monitor forecasts during this period.
Choosing When to Come
- Most comfortable overall: January–March
- Best value (off-peak accommodation): Late September or late December can offer more room to negotiate on rent and hotels (conditions vary by property and year)
- Heat-sensitive visitors: May–August midday heat is intense — plan outdoor activities for early morning or late afternoon
